Three Years of Global Excellence: Coruña British International School Reaches Future Problem Solvers International Finals Once Again

  • News

Coruña British International School has reached the Future Problem Solvers final for the third year running, excelling in innovation, critical thinking and projects with a global and social impact.

For the third year running, Coruña British International School has once again demonstrated excellence on the global stage by qualifying for the prestigious Future Problem Solvers International Conference Finals, which this year will take place in Indiana, United States. This remarkable achievement reflects the school’s ongoing commitment to innovation, teamwork, critical thinking, and preparing students to become confident global citizens ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow.

Reaching the international finals for three consecutive years is no small feat. It stands as a powerful testament to the dedication of both students and staff. Future Problem Solvers is one of the world’s leading academic programmes, encouraging young people to think creatively and strategically about real-world issues while developing essential leadership, communication, and collaboration skills. Competing against schools from across the globe, Coruña British International School continues to show that talent, ambition, and determination know no boundaries.

This year, students from Year 7, Year 8, and Elisa from Year 9 have excelled in the Global Issues Problem Solving (GIPS) competition. Their qualifying topic, Surveillance, is both highly relevant and deeply thought-provoking in today’s increasingly digital world. Students explored its ethical, social, and technological implications with notable maturity, analytical depth, and imaginative problem-solving.

They now prepare for the next stage at the International Conference, where the new challenge will focus on Forestry. This engaging topic will require them to examine environmental sustainability, conservation, climate impact, and the future management of one of the planet’s most valuable natural resources. Given their proven ability to rise to every challenge, there is little doubt they will represent the school with distinction.

Meanwhile, Year 9 students have made a meaningful impact through community-focused projects throughout the academic year. Their efforts have also earned international recognition, with two outstanding teams qualifying for the finals.

Team 1: Calm Mode

Lucas, Javier, Rocío, Noa, Irene B, Irene G

The Calm Mode team developed an inspiring initiative aimed at reducing stress among Year 6 and Year 7 students as they approach exam periods. Recognising the increasing pressures faced by younger pupils, they introduced strategies and support systems to promote wellbeing, confidence, and emotional resilience. Their work reflects not only creativity but also empathy and a genuine desire to help others succeed.

Team 2: Lengua Viva

Elisa, Vera, Julia, Martina, Alejandro, Bibi, Antón, Sofía

Lengua Viva focused on supporting Key Stage 3 students in better understanding the subject of Lengua, particularly those new to the school, new to Spanish, or facing difficulties with the subject. Their initiative highlights inclusivity, kindness, and a practical commitment to ensuring every student has the opportunity to thrive academically. By identifying a real need within the school community and responding with purposeful action, they have embodied the true spirit of service and leadership.

These achievements extend far beyond reaching a final. They demonstrate that Coruña British International School students are not only academically capable but also socially aware, innovative, and driven to make a difference. Whether addressing global issues such as surveillance and forestry or developing projects that enhance the wellbeing and learning of their peers, these young individuals are already shaping a brighter future.

As the school community looks ahead to Indiana with pride and excitement, it celebrates the hard work, creativity, and dedication of every student involved. Qualifying for the Future Problem Solvers International Finals for a third consecutive year is a significant milestone, placing the school among the very best on the international stage.

Congratulations to all finalists, their teachers, and their families. Coruña is proud of you, Spain is proud of you, and we wish you every success as you once again bring your talent to the world stage.
