  • News

The new Coruña British International School campus is already underway and will open in September 2026!

Construction work on the new Coruña British International School in Sésamo (Culleredo) is already underway, with the campus expected to be fully operational in September 2026. The project envisages a set of U-shaped buildings, around a large central atrium, with a total built area of 14,846 m² that will accommodate students of all educational stages, from three to 18 years of age. ‘A campus that will be a benchmark for cutting-edge education in A Coruña and which, together with the enriching and challenging British curriculum, will allow us to offer the most comprehensive international education in the city, opening a new and exciting chapter in the history of our school,’ says Headmaster Dominic Abbott.

Built on a 38,698 m² plot of land in Sésamo and in an unbeatable natural setting, the location of the new Coruña British International School campus is ideal for continuing the educational project of the first British school in A Coruña. Likewise, the execution of this project contemplates the humanisation of the access roads, the improvement of the communications in the area and the creation of a circular path parallel to the river with public access for the use and enjoyment of the neighbours of Culleredo and its surroundings.

A campus at the forefront of education

The practical and experiential methodology of the British education system is evident in all the spaces of the project. The architecture, design and spaces in schools are extremely important in the process of educational innovation, and the project of the new campus of Coruña British International School contemplates warm, open and interconnected spaces that facilitate active learning and contribute to develop the necessary skills to face the challenges of the 21st century, such as teamwork, critical and analytical thinking, resilience, self-improvement, public speaking and leadership, among others, as well as to carry out the practical and experiential learning characteristic of the British education system.

More than 14,800 m² built

The new campus of Coruña British International School will have a single building, to promote the coexistence of the entire student body, but which will also have spaces differentiated by educational stages, adapted to the specific needs of each one of them. A modern, functional and flexible building to adapt to the constant evolution of the students and their needs in the different educational stages, with light as the protagonist and transparency as an element of communication, as they are all structured around a central courtyard, which serves as a meeting point and catalyst for the school life of the new campus of Coruña British International School.

Educational spaces

The Early Years classrooms will have a specific outdoor area and their own playground, where pupils will be able to explore and experiment, giving free rein to their creativity and inventiveness. They will be located on the ground floor of the building next to the reception area, the Primary classrooms and learning spaces, the auditorium and the school canteen, which will continue to have its own menu prepared by a professional chef and supervised by a nutritionist. The layout of the primary classrooms is particularly noteworthy as they are integrated around an open, shared space where there are no corridors, so that all corners of the school will be filled with pupils learning in a practical and effective way.

The specific Secondary and Baccalaureate classrooms will respond to the educational needs of our young students. Structured around a STEAM area, with laboratories, workshops, music and art classrooms, they will enable our students to acquire the tools and critical thinking skills necessary to learn to make connections, organise ideas, be creative, make decisions and work together across disciplines, preparing them to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

The new campus will also have a gymnasium and a 1,412 m² single-storey sports centre, which will be connected to the educational building by a covered walkway to protect students from adverse weather conditions, as well as an outdoor area for sports practice.

Improving the natural environment

The buildings will be grouped in an area of 16,595 m² and 19,349 m² will be left in thier natural state, where a natural perimeter path will be developed running parallel to the river, which can also be partially enjoyed by local residents. There will also be a vegetable and gardening area for students to make the most of the Globeducate British International Schools' unique outdoor learning programme called “The Journey”.
