New school campus in Culleredo

Built on a 38,698 m² plot in Sésamo (Culleredo) and in an unbeatable natural environment, the location of the new campus of Coruña British International School is ideal for the educational project of the first British school in A Coruña. The architecture, design and spaces in schools are extremely important in the process of educational innovation, and the project for this new campus contemplates warm, open and interconnected spaces that facilitate active learning and contribute to the development of the skills necessary to face the challenges of the 21st century.

It is a highly functional building, with the flexibility to adapt to the constant evolution of the students and their educational needs at different stages, from three to 18 years of age. A design of straight lines, in which light is the protagonist and transparency an element of communication, created around a central inner courtyard, which serves as a link and catalyst for the life of the school.

Learning spaces

The Early Years classrooms will have a specific outdoor area and their own courtyard, where pupils will be able to explore and experiment, giving free rein to their creativity and inventiveness, and will be located on the ground floor of the building, next to the reception area, the Primary classrooms and learning spaces, the auditorium and the school canteen, which will continue to have its own menu prepared by a professional chef and supervised by a nutritionist. The layout of the classrooms in this last stage of education (Primary), which are integrated around an open and shared space, in which there are no corridors, so that in all corners of the school students can be seen learning in a practical and effective way.

The specific Secondary and Sixth Form classrooms will respond to the educational needs of our young students. Structured around a STEAM area, with laboratories, workshops, music and art classrooms, they will allow our students to acquire the tools and critical thinking skills necessary to learn to make connections, organise ideas, be creative, make decisions and work together across disciplines.

The new campus will also have a gymnasium and a 1,412 m² single-storey sports centre, which will be connected to the educational building by a covered walkway to protect students from adverse weather conditions, as well as an outdoor area for sports practice.
